The Enforcement Directorate is searching an apartment in South Kolkata today in connection with a teacher recruitment scam in which former minister Partha Chatterjee and his aide, actor Arpita Mukherjee, have been arrested.
Because the apartment in the Fort Oasis complex was locked, a locksmith was called. Since the arrests on July 23, there have been multiple raids on flats associated with Ms Mukherjee across Kolkata, with around 50 core cash seized. The investigation agency claims it is linked to bribes for teacher and other staff appointments when Mr Chatterjee, a Trinamool Congress leader, was Education Minister in 2016.
He was minister for industries until last week. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee removed Chatterjee as a minister and from all TMC positions on Thursday.
Partha Chatterjee claimed on Friday that he was the “victim of a conspiracy.” Chatterjee also said that only time would tell if the TMC’s action against him was justified.
