As tensions rise over US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s travel to Taiwan, social media users reported seeing a massive movement of armoured vehicles and other military equipment near the island country that China claims as its own territory.
The Chinese social media user shared a video clip of a column of Chinese armoured vehicles on a busy route while driving by.
Beijing has warned that Ms. Pelosi’s visit will have “extremely serious” ramifications. Hua Chunying, a spokesman for China’s Foreign Ministry, stated that the visit is not a personal act and that if the US goes forward with it, China will “legitimately take all actions required.”
Meanwhile, the White House has advised China not to overreact and has put four warships east of the island on “regular” deployments.
Both Chinese and Taiwanese media have released slickly made movies indicating their readiness for conflict and displaying lethal weaponry.
A social media user supposedly shared a video depicting Taiwan’s defense’s battle readiness.
Russia has supported China, warning Washington that such a provocative trip would put the US at odds with Beijing.
In a phone call last week, Chinese President Xi Jinping cautioned US President Joe Biden not to play with fire over Taiwan, but three sources told News agency on Tuesday that Pelosi was still planning to visit the island.
Beijing claims that a visit by Pelosi would violate the one-China principle, which Washington has pledged to uphold.
